Rules
The director and founder of Kensho-Ryu Kenpo Karate is Mark Sheeley, and will be called Grand Master.
All other Black Belts in Kensho-Ryu Kenpo are to be referred to by their proper titles.
The formal class is always begun and ended in a ceremonious way.
No student will leave the Dojo without the permission of the instructor of the class.
Students must have clean GI’s, clean feet, fingernails and toenails clipped and all jewelry must be removed.
A student does what he/she is told to do when he/she is told to do it.
There will be no laughing, giggling or unnecessary talking during a class.
No gum, food or candy allowed. Drink is allowed inside the Dojo, to be left in the office area.
All students must arrive promptly for class. Once class has begun, the courtesy of taking a full class should be followed. If the student can’t stay for the full hour, he/she should not start the class.
Do not touch the walls inside the Dojo.
Punishment for breaking any rules or otherwise goofing-off will be push-ups. The student will count the push-ups aloud and will thank the instructor with a bow.
No foul language is allowed.
Student’s line up accordingly. The student of highest rank or more time in grade to the instructors left. The belt is only worn if the student is in full uniform.
Instructors will be sure that all the students are properly uniformed while training in any class. Kensho-Ryu Kenpo uniform consist of full GI, tee shirt, and belt. In extremely hot temperatures, students may remove GI tops with the instructor’s permission. The tee shirts must be the uniform tee shirt with the patch screen printed upon it. No substitutions.
Any patches worn on the Kensho-Ryu uniform must be authorized.

No student that is training in Kensho-Ryu Kenpo is allowed to show another student anything that they have learned, or ask another student to show them anything. It is not allowed in the school or out of the school. You may not work out with a student of another school for the purpose of exchanging techniques or for any other reason. It is also not allowed of a student to be training in another school while attending this school. It is further not allow for a student to train with any black belt who is not a current instructor of this school and is not under the supervision of Grand Master Mark Sheeley. Students are under a certain training program and we do not allow any interference with the program. This is in the student’s best interest. If the student is a member of an organization that requires some type of martial arts training, then the student must tell us of the circumstances. Sometimes permission must come from Grand Master Sheeley only. This rule also applies to black belts of this school and all students are obligated to follow this rule or suffer expulsion.
Tournament competition is considered training. If is not mandatory that the student compete. Competition is strongly encouraged. It is not necessary to compete in all categories. Remember, if one trains and never competes, it is like learning to play baseball but never having a game. If the student is training simply to learn self-defense, then competition is not necessary and neither is rank.
The instructor will decide whether the student is ready for competition. This is to ensure the student’s safety and protect the image of the school. Generally, the first competition is in a small inter school Karate meet run by the school. There is very little pressure under this circumstance and it gives the student a change to experience the game before attempting a major tournament.
Any student who engages in any illegal activities, either inside or out of the studio, will be expelled.
All students must supply themselves with safety equipment. This equipment includes the following: Mouth guard, Groin-cups(men), safety helmet, punch and kick. This rule is obviously for the student’s own safety. Not having this equipment will prevent the instructor from teaching the same things as the students who have them. The student cannot spar if he/she does not have the equipment. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain the equipment for his/her protection.
Charges for insufficient funds will be charged to the student.
